WHAT IS EGG DONATION?
In the United States, egg donation is a legally recognized medical process, connected to In-vitro Fertilization, also known as IVF, in which a fertile woman donates (whether compensated or not) one or several eggs to a recipient (intended parent) for the purpose of assisted reproduction. After the fertile woman completes the egg retrieval procedure, her role in the process is complete, and the recipient’s role begins. If a pregnancy results and a birth occurs from a legally represented egg donation arrangement, the egg donor is never considered legally responsible for a child born as a result of her participation in an egg donation arrangement. QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify, and become an egg donor, a young woman must meet several preliminary qualifications and industry requirements. She must also be in full compliance with the required psychological, medical, and legal responsibilities of the process.
Before applying, all interested and potential egg donor candidates are encouraged to review the preliminary qualifications, and industry requirements found below:
• Must be between the ages of 20-32
• Have a normal Body Mass Index (BMI); typically under 28
• No current or recent use of illegal or legal drugs, and excessive alcohol
• Be physically and mentally healthy with a health conscience lifestyle
• Have regular menstrual cycles
• No current use of Depo-Provera or contraceptive implant devises
• No known family history of inherited or genetic disorders
• Have a reasonably healthy family medical history
• Be dependable, mature, and available to responsibly attend IVF medical appointments during the stimulation phase of the donation cycle; typically between 2-3 weeks
• Be willing to travel within the United States for the medical screening and egg retrieval appointments (with travel costs covered by the intended parent)
• Be willing to complete all necessary and requested screening requirements
• Be willing to sign a legal agreement and abide by the terms listed as agreed upon
• Be willing to take hormone injection medications as prescribed by the IVF Physician
• Be willing to notify the agency of any significant medical history changes after completing an egg donation arrangement
